  • Extreme toothache

  • Ongoing sensitivity to cold or hot temperatures.

  • Discoloration of the tooth.

  • Swelling/tenderness of gums.

What happens during a root canal?
The root canal procedure cleans out the infected pulp and nerve in the root of a tooth. Once the area has been cleaned out, it will be filled and sealed off to prevent further tooth infection. A crown will then be placed over the top of your natural tooth to protect it and restore it to full use again.

More importantly, what happens during a root canal is that we save your tooth! Sometimes, due to difficulty of canal anatomy, Dr. Richey may decide to send you to an endodontist, a root canal specialist.

Restorative Dentistry

Dental Implants: Implants are used to anchor a dental prostheses like a crown or a set of dentures in place. This results in a smile that looks and feels completely natural!

  • Dental Crowns: A dental crown is the area of the tooth you can see when you smile. When you have a broken tooth or a cracked tooth, a prosthetic crown can be placed over the top to protect the natural tooth.

  • Bridges: Bridges are used to fill in large gaps of multiple missing teeth in a smile. Placing a bridge can prevent shifting and help you regain chewing function!

  • Dentures: Dentures are designed to restore a full or partial smile to a patient. They also restore chewing ability, which can result in a better quality of life.

  • Fillings: Fillings are applied to teeth when they have lost some of their structure due to cavities or trauma. A procedure like this preserves your tooth.

Oral Surgery

When is tooth extraction necessary? Because our teeth are living things, it stands to reason that they might need to be removed in the face of certain circumstances. There are a number of reasons why a tooth extraction may be needed:

  • Baby Teeth: When a child is growing up and losing their baby teeth, there may be a time or two when particularly stubborn baby teeth need to be pulled. In instances like this, a local anesthetic can be applied, though the tooth removal usually isn’t difficult.

  • Decay: Decaying teeth that are beyond saving should be extracted before they can cause damage to healthy teeth.

  • Crowding: Each mouth is different. Sometimes there are too many teeth in too small of a space, necessitating a tooth removal.

  • Infection: Similar to decay, if a tooth is badly infected, you might need that tooth pulled in order to protect your oral health.

TMJ & TMD Treatment

Teeth Grinding | If you often grind your teeth, it can cause TMD. Teeth grinding usually occurs during sleep, resulting in overuse of the TMJ and tooth erosion. If left untreated, tooth grinding can cause serious dental problems. At Beveridge Dental, we offer a special bite guard that can help prevent patients from grinding their teeth at night.
Injury | If you have injured your jaw, it can cause TMD. At our San Jose dentist office, Dr. Beveridge can provide treatment to relieve your symptoms.
Bad Bite | If you have a misaligned jaw or bad bite, it can cause TMD. Dr. Beveridge can help treat a bad bite by realigning or adjusting your teeth
